Becoming a Genius is an important and exciting role, but also a responsibility. Before placing your Medal, make sure you agree with our code of conduct.
Permissions
ask before placing a Medal.
If you are not the owner of the place yourself, make sure to ask for permission beforehand. Depending on the site, this may be from the municipality, the state or a private owner. You can also invite the owner to become a co-Genius and send them an invitation. They can write their own content too.
Always make sure you do not damage or alter the place when fixing your medal there.
Moderation and exchanges
act as a “guardian of the place”
By becoming a Genius, you become the voice of this place and, in a way, the guardian of its memory.
Make your space as welcoming as possible. Remember to encourage interaction with visitors and to reply to comments.
Legitimacy
are you the right person?
Do you have a special connection with this place? Memories, or interesting information to share? If not really, consider inviting other co-Genius who can complement your content.
Content
quality and originality
When you write your content, always think about future visitors. What do they want to read? What will interest them? Feel free to share personal anecdotes, local stories or legends. There is no need to be too scientific or encyclopaedic, as long as the information is accurate. If you draw on content found elsewhere, remember to cite your sources.
Content that is openly marketing, or has little connection to the place, may be removed from Genius Loci
Opinions and themes
avoid contentious topics
Genius Loci makes it possible to showcase all kinds of places, but always in a good-natured spirit and in strict compliance with the law. Any political topic, or any highly personal reinterpretation of history, should be avoided.
Experience
pleasure and generosity above all
When a visitor discovers your medal and its content, they should be surprised, intrigued, charmed… in short, learn something about the place and feel pleasure.
You are the guide — over to you!
