Genius Loci Ambassadors are expert heritage professionals accredited by Genius Loci. In your region, they are on hand to carry out your heritage enhancement projects.
With degrees in Art History and Archaeology and Ancient Languages (Université Libre de Bruxelles, 2012), I completed my training with a second master’s in Heritage studies (University of Cambridge, 2016), which led me to explore the ethical aspects of the practice of history and its use in the public sphere. I devoted my research dissertation to communicating archaeological knowledge and the principle of uncertainty within cultural institutions and attractions.
From 2010 to 2014, I took part in various archaeological missions on sites in France (ULB), Lebanon (British Museum), India (Deccan College) and Cyprus (Ecole française d’Athènes). In 2014, I held the post of museologist at the Corporation de la maison Dumulon (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec). Between September 2017 and February 2021, I taught history and Latin at the Lycée Prince de Liège in Kinshasa (DR Congo). I also joined the Texaf-Bilembo team there, contributing to books on contemporary Congolese art (edited by Ch. Tombu, Weyrich editions, Belgium).
In 2020, I obtained a Belgian professional drone pilot licence.
That same year, I co-founded Retrace, a heritage enhancement agency, with Julie Waseige, also a Genius Loci ambassador. Together, we work with any individual or community wishing to safeguard, showcase and share historical, artistic or archaeological heritage. We offer tailored services that combine scientific research with the design and production of content.
Since its creation, Retrace has written and produced catalogues of private collections, biographies and fine books devoted to architectural heritage. With a keen interest in new technologies, it has also helped develop an online catalogue raisonné service and offers aerial drone imagery to photograph natural or historical heritage. Today its clients include non-profit organisations, foundations, businesses and families, whom it supports from the moment they define their needs through to the completion of their projects.
Why Genius Loci?
Meaning “the spirit of place”, the name Genius Loci echoes the professional mission I devote myself to every day at Retrace: “telling the story of heritage to bring it back to life”.
Genius Loci medals help pass on the knowledge of a heritage site in an original way, thanks to qualities I particularly value:
- Their participatory dimension and the chance for everyone to share their own secret about the history of a place
- Their hosting on a user-friendly platform and content in many forms: audio, photo, video and more
- The instant translation of written content into many languages
- The option to obtain visitor statistics for public or private authorities
Specialities
- Enhancement of private and public heritage
- Research in history and archaeology
- Cultural content creation
- Production of books and exhibitions
- Aerial photography
Region
Based in the Lille and Tournai area. My work for Retrace currently takes me across Belgium, France and Switzerland.
