Genius Loci Medals in One of Humanity's Oldest Cradles

The sanctuary of the Eternal Valley rises like a ripple out of time — a legendary land preserved since the dawn of humanity. Listed as a Historic Monument and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, this extraordinary realm unfolds across ancient forests and secret caves, from which “l’éternelle” springs forth: the oldest source in Europe. Where science, culture and spirituality converge, this LPO wildlife refuge and Natura 2000 site beckons you toward a truly singular inner journey.

Following the ten Genius Loci medals, visitors embark on a journey back to their roots. Much like the salmon returning to its native waters to be renewed, venturing along this winding trail of wonders is a promise of regeneration — a reconnection with the life force that sustains and restores us. A voyage where the past illuminates the future.

The Vallée Éternelle project was born in Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, at the heart of the Périgord Noir — Europe's cradle of humanity. This living sanctuary, nestled in the Vézère Valley and known as the "Valley of Man," is home to 147 prehistoric sites and 25 decorated caves inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

AboutGenius Loci

2,000 years ago, the Romans believed every place was protected by a Genius Loci, the spirit of place.

Today, “genius loci” refers to the unique atmosphere of a place – its character, its history. The term is particularly used in architecture.

We have built on this idea to create a tool for showcasing and digitising heritage – driven by citizens themselves.

Founded in Switzerland by the designers of Design Sprint Ltd, Genius Loci SA finally makes hyperlocal destinations attractive. Truly affordable for municipalities, associations and local authorities.
