To ensure an optimal lifespan for the medals, we recommend installing them, whenever possible, in a spot that is as sheltered as possible from the elements (rain, hail, snow, friction and dirt…). Ideally, they should be mounted vertically rather than horizontally.
The reason is very simple: if the medal is fixed horizontally in a poorly protected location, water droplets, sand, pollen, resin or other dust will struggle to drain. In the long run these stains may affect the aesthetic appearance, cause the start of corrosion of the steel or hinder the readability of the QR code.
To clean your medals and keep their shiny look, we recommend maintaining them by occasionally applying a protective spray coating, for example WD40 lubricant, which is easy to find in hardware stores.
